Player Profile - Rod Paterson

Rod PatersonRod is affectionately known as FPS (Future Permanent Secretary) following his rapid promotion to G5 at the tender age of 17. As befits his youth, Rod is one of the team's more agile fielders and has a fine throw and a generally safe pair of hands. He is also our quickest regular bowler by some distance but does not always get the wickets he deserves, frequently suffering a number of edged catchable boundaries due to lack of competent support in the field from his ageing teammates (he has been known to stand with hands on hips staring skywards as the demon Pope snares another victim). Rod knows how to hold a bat but does not get many opportunities to show his capabilities.

Rod played even more games in 2009 than in 2008 but took fewer wickets. Continued to suffer from lack of quality Dodgers fielding. There was some solace in a few good knocks with the bat (and a nice average courtesy of having only been out once) and was as ever, athletic in the field and took four catches.

Would like to see Reading promoted by the start of the 2010 cricket season.

He continues to drink more ale than lager which has to be a good thing.

Player Profile - Neil Benn

In his Dodgers heyday, Neil just pipped Adey in the speed gun challenge, with one wind assisted down-the-slope delivery clocked at 29mph. Neil was one of our most consistent and reliable bowlers as reflected in his stats. Also had his moments with the bat, including a virtual lone hand against Warwick Castle. Is rightly proud of his Yorkshireness.

Neil was persuaded out of retirement this season for one fateful game v Tilburg Regents. Inspired by not getting a bat and only 2 overs he has promised never to return again!

Player Profile - Chris Jacobs

Chris did not play for Dodgers last season due to a change in job and locations but the door is always open for a return.

Occasionally, as WebChief I receive emails from people asking whether or not we have any really good photos of people getting comprehensively bowled. Fortunately such a photo does exist (see below) and lo and behold it features Mr Jacobs. Somewhat illogically this display of batting skill actually formed the basis of our recruitment campaign for several years!

Player Profile - Damian Radcliffe

Notoriously unpunctual (see also Russ and Raj) but showed great persistence in his efforts to get to the Energy Exiles match in August. Confronted with a broken down train and the prospect of a closed Barnes footbridge, Damian only arrived about 30 mins late and we didn't have to send out a search party.

Helped set up a new fixture this season v St Anne's Allstars @ Barnes Common which we won.

Damian's highest score was 40 and that might've been higher had he not turned his invitation to attend the McBarron/Boycott Yorkshire School of Proper Creekit Techneeeq. It's not about how quick it's how many! Even in Twenty20!!

Player Profile - Raj

Raj made his debut in 2008 but in 2009 made limited appearances with little success with either bat or ball. Hopefully next year he'll be available for more games. Raj's lack of a sense of direction and an inability to read maps has gone down in Dodgers legend. Next season we promise not to play at any grounds that are too hard to find!

Player Profile - David Lowe

Runner up to Rob Fox in the 'World's Baldest Bloke Championships', David's bowling reached legendary status this season with his 5 for 8 v Corinthians at Chiswick (the match every Dodgers bowler wished they'd played in). Eventually returning the second best ever analysis (4-1-8-5) David swept the board for the MoM.

Player Profile - Peter Lee

There are no suitable superlatives to describe the contribution of our recently promoted Derby County fan. The highest compliment one can pay is that his competitive, argumentative, sniping from the sidelines approach means he could be mistaken for a Yorkshireman (were it not for the lager drinking). Peter had some good moments with the bat but his bowling continued to blow very hot and cold and greater consistency is needed.

Peter brought the Weekenders to Chiswick one sunny Sunday afternoon and a great time was had by all. We even signed up two of his players, albeit on a temporary basis.

By his standards, Peter W Lee Sr (as opposed to Peter W Lee Jr) had a quiet year with the bat. The main highlight (apart from his knock for the above-mentioned Weekenders) was an unbeaten 29 v Nomura for which he also won Man of the Match, aided no doubt by his tight endgame bowling performance.

Peter is affectionately known as FDSRP (Future Deputy Secretary to Rod Paterson) and works with the DfT "great and good". It is as yet unclear as to whether Peter's promotion will mean he's able to play more or less for the mighty Dodgers.

Player Profile - John Hilary

John Hilary
John continued to contribute well with bat and ball without being quite as prolific as in some previous years. Continues to excel in his chosen career in the charitable sector and was recently promoted to Chief Executive of 'Send me money you pampered rich western bastards'.

Continues to be a thoroughly decent egg, doing good work for good causes - will hopefully continue to infuriate Rod by congratulating opposition batsmen on good shots.

Once had long hair (see below).

Player Profile - Andrew Crawford

Andrew Crawford
The trainspotting Charterhouse old boy has departed for new pastures in Brussels so it is doubtful we will see him for some while.

On his day a quick/slingy bowler and a destructive bat, Andrew has been one of our premier all-rounders. We shall particularly miss his sunny persona in the field and his advisories on which end of the platform to stand at when catching a train at an unfamiliar station (although McBarron seems to be slipping into his shoes quite ably).

Player Profile - Will Streatfeild

Inside Will there is clearly a fast bowler struggling to get out. The juggler returned to just the one ball this season undecided on the best form of attack. Undoubtedly he has raw pace but ended up being rather wayward with it so he reverted a more considered approach. Perhaps some hard work in the nets in March and April next year will see the new and improved Will unleashing the fury on a more regular basis.

The Artful Juggler

Player Profile - Rob Fox

Rob had another good season for Dodgers with both bat and ball. He is now 8th on the All-Time Wicket-taking list with 58 and with 300 runs in 35 innings at 20.00 must be looking to complete the 1000 runs / 100 wickets double in a few years. He would join a rather exclusive club with only Messrs McBarron, Benn and Hilary (J) for company.

Rob is this year's recipient of the Natarajan Narasimhan Trophy for not being able to find the ground for his performance on 26 August v Energy Exiles.

Player Profile - Matt Taylor

Matt frequently got in amongst the runs at the top of the order this season but, all too frequently, he got out just as the going was getting really good. Matt's excellent fielding still impresses and sometime scares the rest of us mere mortals. He took three catches and made all of them look easy.

Matt picked up his usual jammy wicket from a single over v Treasury and still dreams of making that magical 50 overs mark.

Is still rightly proud of being from Yorkshire.

Player Profile - Simon Cousins

Despite only playing in 14 matches, Simon bowled the most overs of any of our bowlers this season thanks in no small part to marathon stints against Weekenders (17-1-74-2) and Buckhurst Hill (15-4-58-2). Simon also memorably steered us to victory with the bat with 15 not out in a partnership with Stephen Bennett in the match against Legal Commission.

Simon missed out on the bowling award this season but his consistent form all season long brought him the deserved title of Player of the Season with 2 MoMs and 35 votes overall. This is Simon's third win and follows his back-to-back triumphs in 2004 and 2005.

Player Profile - Mike Dollin

When Mike isn't playing for ATOC, SRA, XRA, Corinthians and the MCC, he plays for Dodgers. On his day he's a truly devastating bat and this season we certainly got glimpses of that form. His 55 against Weasels saved us from ritual slaughter and he was rightly voted Man of the Match. That was his only really big score and we lost count of the number of times Mike came back into the hutch literally kicking himself after he had needlessly got himself out after doing the groundwork.

Mike rarely bowls for Dodgers but is still an all-rounder. He donned the gloves for us against Superstars at Barnes Common in the absence of the Cat and took two catches.

Mike is part of the Dodgers antipodean colonial contingent so we couldn't resist mentioning another important scoreline from this season: 2-1!

Player Profile - Neil Priest

Neil PriestNeil played a lot fewer games than normal this season, mainly due to a broken finger and mostly struggled for his form of previous seasons.

His controversial champagne moment of the season was when he played a 8-0 legside field when David Pope was bowling at the London School of Economics.

Now only leads the All-Time Runs Scored Top 10 table by 104 from McB.

Continued to spend 90% of his time in the field stood at slip (any views on the usefulness of this tactic to Captain Carr on a postcard).
