Weather: Dry, sunny

Dodgers 108 for 3 (Cooper R 26*, Lee P Jr 26*) beat English Heritage 104 for 6 (Cousins 4-0-11-1) by 7 wickets

Man of the Match: Cooper R - 4, Cousins - 3, Lee P Jr - 1

Match report

At a sun-kissed Chiswick, Dodgers faced up to the task of demolishing a piece of our Heritage with unusual sang froid, encouraged by unprecedented good form and another strong line-up. Captain Carr lost the toss and was asked to take the field. Normally, this would be a cause for trepidation but with a bowling line up reminiscent of 2005 Ashes England for its consistency, strength in depth and lack of a decent spinner, the boys donned their baggy blues with confidence and headed out onto the sacred sward.

Their confidence initially looked misplaced as Cooper (R) served up a first over of total dross but both he and human metronome Cousins were soon into their groove. Frankham was snaffled by Lee (Minor) off Cooper, rapidly followed by unsuccessful dairy farmer Cowburn who lost patience with the nagging line and length from Cousins. The Cat plundered a fabulous run out and once Hilary had shown his turn of speed over one yard to snag Mozart’s rival Saleri, Heritage were virtually history at 41-4. A strong and ear-splitting showing by the middle order pushed the batting total towards respectability but late wickets from the unplayable Hilary and Cooper (J) pegged back the charge, with Lowe also excellent and unlucky to stay wicketless. 104 represented recovery of sorts but for a Dodgers batting side who had been dealing in 150+ totals, it always looked a bit short on a great wicket.

Dodgers kicked off the reply with extra helpings of P W Lee as two generations of that name accelerated towards a 25 run opening partnership. Then Lee (Snr) was adjudged caught from a chest high full toss and Radcliffe followed shortly afterwards. The good ship Dodgers appeared slightly adrift but, like the Ancient Mariner, skipper Carr arrived at the crease to place a firm hand on the tiller and turn his weather-beaten features toward the golden horizon of victory. A dogged 21 not out helped Lee (Jnr) to his 26 not out retirement and provided the base for some quality thrashing from Cooper (R). An unfortunate run out of Hilary kept the crowd on the edge of their seats but late biffage from Lowe ensured victory with a handful of balls (fnarr) to spare.

So yet another strong performance from Dodgers, comfortably dispatching a team who it had previously struggled to beat.

Match report by Matt Taylor

Dodgers slew the KAI Dragons on a sunny evening at Chiswick to record their fourth win on the bounce.

Captain Taylor was fully expecting to face a second defeat of the season as he, Dollin and Marr painfully dragged the Dodgers to 38-1 at the halfway point. The Dragons were quick and accurate; the wicket and outfield slow. Attacking intent from Radcliffe was sneered upon as an occasional bowler was brought on to "give us some runs" and the Dodgers limped to 101. Surely a 20 over total too low to defend, in this guns-blazing, six-bashing world.

So it seemed at the 8-over point despite great bowling from Bennett and Cousins as the Dragons' best batsman cruised towards retirement. But then something happened. The Dodgers side came to life and tore into the Dragons' middle order: batsmen swung wildly at the ball; catches were plucked from the air; and bails fell to the Chiswick turf. First, the batsman-to-retire was forced to collect his cricketing pension early as Bennett ran backwards and caught him at mid on. Then, superb spells from Hilary and Lowe were eclipsed by a sensational (and economical) three wickets in four overs from Fox - whose quicker ball brilliantly splayed the stumps of one unfortunate Dragon. This stunning Dodgers defence showed it had everything as Dollin twice whipped off the bails: once for a lightning-quick stumping; and once as a Taylor throw found the Dragons' skipper short of his ground.

Staggering out of this perfect storm with light fading and the run-rate graph towering over him like a giant ash cloud, the last Dragons batsman had no choice but to heave. And heave he did - straight down the throat of Hilary, who clung on to herald another outstanding Dodgers win.

Player Profile - Rob Cooper

Phil McBarron and Rob Cooper - Dodgers v Tilburg Regents @ Chiswick Thursday 13 May 2010Rob Cooper joined Dodgers in 2009 via the TQ/Warwick Castle connection as part of the ongoing Dodgers Youth (i.e. under-40) Policy. He immediately took the eye with his stylish (and highly competent) batting and bowling and sure enough won Best Bowler at a canter. Good things are expected of Rob in 2010.

Dodgers v Superstars 11.05.10

Chiswick

Weather: Overcast, cold then torrential rain

Superstars won the toss and elected to field

Dodgers 154 for 8 (Dollin 67, Lee P Sr 43) bt Superstars 136 (full bowling figures to follow; Lee P Sr took a hat-trick) by 18 runs

Man of the Match: Lee P Sr - 7, Dollin - 2

Match report

It was a very good win for Dodgers last night by 18 runs in the wind and rain at Chiswick. Inserted by Gigg, an immpromptu Dodgers batting order with Hatteea and Dollin opening looked to get off to a good start but there was an early setback when Hatteea was clean bowled whilst looking to get over-expansive. However, Dollin (who just gets better and better) hit a brilliant 67 and found strong support from Lee the Elder (43) and Lee The Younger (16).

In return, Superstars managed 136 for 9 and needed 18 off the last ball which was a dot having always been just behind the challenging run rate. The highlight was a cleaned bowled hat-trick (including Mountain for a golden duck) by Lee the Elder. McBarron clean bowled Gigg for 60 and Conway for 1. Other highlights were a good catch by Taylor to dismiss Gaught and a stupendous catch by Marr to get rid of Will Walker.

The torrential rain later on and general grey grimness of the weather failed to take the shine off another splendid Dodgers win.
