Dodgers v Superstars 18.07.12

Dodgers 142 all out lost to Superstars 147 all out by five runs

Match report: JH

For the second time in the season, Dodgers managed to throw away a good chance of victory over the old foe. We bowled well, Prem in particular pinning down the strong Superstars openers and Tom claiming the first key wicket just when we needed it. JH managed to snaffle three more wickets to bring his week's tally to seven, while NJ, Muhammad and Sardar all bowled with controlled economy. Superstars would have scored more had they managed to bat out their overs, but their usually impressive running between the wicket turned so shambolic that even Dodgers managed to notch up three run-outs. With just over 4 an over to score, we knew we were in with a strong shout.

Dodgers started the run chase promisingly in what were by this time very boggy conditions, with additional bursts of rain sheeting down for good measure. Mike and Phil built us a solid platform that was only just behind the run rate, Mike riding his luck big time with umpteen catching chances going down. We were still in the driving seat on their departure with lots of strong batting still to come, but the introduction of the Rats slow bowlers did for us, Jason Marchant in particular taking 4 wickets and proving impossible to hit off the square. We would still have won it had we just managed to bat out our own overs, but one by one the Dodgers batsmen failed to stick. Three ginger beers in the Coach & Horses were needed to take away the bitter taste of self-inflicted defeat.

Scorecard to come...

Dodgers v Science Museum 17.07.12

Dodgers 160 for 3 (Shimoga (NJ) 28* of 15 and Hatteea 27* of 15) beat Science Museum 36 all out (Hilary 4 for 10 and Marsh 2 for 24) by 124 runs

MOM votes: Hilary 9 and Marsh 1

Match report: JH

Dodgers win - overwhelmingly!

Having sought out a new pitch (our normal Barnes Common one being both waterlogged and booked by another team) Dodgers won the toss and chose to bat. Muhammad was unlucky to fall LBW to a straight one, but subsequent batsmen set about the bowling with aplomb. Sacha, Phil, NJ and Tom all notched up their 25s in double quick time, while JC, Sergei and Steve kept the other end ticking over nicely. A total of 160 in just 18 overs was always going to be more than competitive, given the strength of our bowling attack and the state of the outfield.

And so it proved. The Dodgers openers went into overdrive, and the Science Museum were skittled out for just 36. With five wickets coming in six balls (including a second Dodgers hat-trick in consecutive games, this time for John Hilary) only one of the Scientists managed to put up much resistance. We were soon supping with the beautiful people at The Spencer on Putney Common, as the dusk and drizzle came softly down.
