MoM votes = Shimoga 8, Hatteea 2, Qureshi 1
Match report by Simon Cousins
Dodgers lost on a miserable afternoon to Buckhurst Hill and nobody had any fun. JC won the toss and Dodgers batted, cruising to 216 - 4. Hatteea made a chance-filled but still classy 82 (dropped at least four times), Neil a typically calm 48 (during which he passed 6000 runs for Dodgers) and everyone else chipped in. JC then sportingly declared, giving Buckhurst a little over 40 overs to reach their target. They could have done it in 20.
In monsoon conditions, Dodgers' bowlers were tonked all over (and out of) the park. Due to slippery grass, bowlers were forced to foresake run ups, as they bowled from any vaguely dry part of the crease they could find, while the ball mutated into a swollen cake of soap. But that shouldn't detract from the quality of the violent innings played by Buckhurst's burly keeper or that of his more refined opening partner.
Dodgers' lowlights included a six off Cousins that hit the top floor of the neighbouring block of flats and four dropped catches. Rare highlights included a magnificent spell by NJ, who in 17 overs bowled barely five bad balls (his figures of 2-80 don't do him justice), a good comeback spell from NJ's mate Prem and a magnificent catch at square leg by Fox, who was otherwise in danger of being decapitated.
In bright sunshine, Dodgers ended up losing by 7 wickets with 8 overs to spare. And being at Buckhurst's second ground, there wasn't even a bar in which Dodgers could drown their many sorrows.
