Match report: JH

For the second time in the season, Dodgers managed to throw away a good chance of victory over the old foe. We bowled well, Prem in particular pinning down the strong Superstars openers and Tom claiming the first key wicket just when we needed it. JH managed to snaffle three more wickets to bring his week's tally to seven, while NJ, Muhammad and Sardar all bowled with controlled economy. Superstars would have scored more had they managed to bat out their overs, but their usually impressive running between the wicket turned so shambolic that even Dodgers managed to notch up three run-outs. With just over 4 an over to score, we knew we were in with a strong shout.

Dodgers started the run chase promisingly in what were by this time very boggy conditions, with additional bursts of rain sheeting down for good measure. Mike and Phil built us a solid platform that was only just behind the run rate, Mike riding his luck big time with umpteen catching chances going down. We were still in the driving seat on their departure with lots of strong batting still to come, but the introduction of the Rats slow bowlers did for us, Jason Marchant in particular taking 4 wickets and proving impossible to hit off the square. We would still have won it had we just managed to bat out our own overs, but one by one the Dodgers batsmen failed to stick. Three ginger beers in the Coach & Horses were needed to take away the bitter taste of self-inflicted defeat.
