South Park
T20
6pm
Overcast
Dodgers 106 for 8 (Hilary 25* & Taylor 16) lost to English Heritage 110 for 4 (Hilary 3/21 & Gray 1/10) by 6 wicket & 4.2 overs remaining.
MoM votes: Gray 1, Hilary 10
Match report: JH
Fresh from the weekend's drubbing at Roehampton, Dodgers registered another defeat in what could have been a close match, but in the end wasn't. The South Park wicket was its usual unpredictable self, with good length balls rising vertically to fizz pass the batsman's head and short ones skidding along the floor. Heritage took better advantage of the conditions, bowling and fielding tightly for most of the innings, and Dodgers lost more wickets than was good for us early on. Hilary steadied the ship briefly with first Lee and then Zaheer, followed by a final flourish from Palmer, but we had already been undone. The outfield was fast and the boundaries short, and the Heritage took to our bowling with gusto. We were put out of our misery with five overs to spare.
Mention must be made of Captain Taylor's unprecedented behaviour in wearing only his undershorts to play the game, his whites still wet from being washed after the weekend. Despite having stopped off at the Earls Court Oxfam en route to the game to buy a pair of golf shorts (which were then found to be unwearably small), Matt opted to play sporting only his skin-tight trunks. While this was passable when batting, in that various forms of thigh padding offered at least a semblance of modesty, the sight of their captain fielding semi-naked clearly sapped the team's confidence. We leave it to the Committee to decide what level of fine is appropriate.
