Dodgers 216 for 7 (Hatteea 125) beat Buckhurst Hill 212 for 9 (Hilary 2/49 & Naidu 2/50) by 2 wickets with 3.5 overs remaining.
MoM votes: Hatteea 9 and Naidu 1
Yet another victory in the amazing Dodgers season comeback, this time over a Buckhurst Hill side brimming with young talent. Led by Prem, our bowlers stuck to their task well, on a dry ground with short boundaries and a slope that meant almost anything hit off the square looked to cross the ropes. Excellent fielding from Mike Dollin (two sharp catches) and Peter Lee the Elder (two smart run-outs) supported the bowling, with Sacha doing good work behind the stumps. The Buckhurst total of 212 looked eminently gettable as we went in for a very pleasant tea.
The story of the day, however, was still to come in a magnificent century from Hatteea (his first for Dodgers), beating the short-lived individual score record set by Dollin just a month earlier. Sacha made full use of the short boundaries, cracking anything too short or too long into the gaps and lofting a couple of juicy sixes into the trees of Epping Forest, while never looking like getting out (until he lobbed an innocuous one to the only fielder still in close on the off side). We were comfortably placed by now, but managed to turn the game into a much closer contest than needed by virtue of the customary Dodgers wobble, as Priest, Lee, McB, JC and Sergei all trooped back to the pavilion in unnecessarily quick succession. Some lusty hitting from NJ finally turned the tide in our favour, although he was lucky to be dropped on the mid-wicket boundary. The end came in the most poetic manner, as NJ connected with a short one and smashed it far out of the ground for six. A great game in a lovely setting, with drinks courtesy of Centurion Sacha to round off the day.
