Dodgers 223 for 4 (McBarron 51*, Radcliffe 50* & Anand 37*) beat LSE 222 for 10 (Shimoga (NJ) 3/29, Hilary 2/28 & Gray 2/37) by 6 wickets with 3 overs remaining.
MoM votes: Anand 7 and Radcliffe 4
Dodgers recorded a famous victory over an LSE team that looked threatening with both bat and ball but eventually succumbed to our superior firepower. The oppo had gone after our bowling with a will, their middle order in particular showing how a dry outfield and short boundaries can turn into quick scoring and large totals. Vijay was as economical and accurate as ever, but the rest of us went to all corners of the field as LSE broke through the 200 mark. Wickets continued to fall, however, and a grand total of 222 was never out of sight on such a good pitch.
After a spectacular biryani tea - many thanks, Khalid - Dodgers sent out Radcliffe and McBarron to the middle with instructions to stick around and build the innings steadily. This they most certainly did, putting together an excellent opening partnership of 86 and both eventually retiring with unbeaten half centuries under their respective belts. For Damian, back with us from Qatar for just two matches, this was not only his maiden 50 for Dodgers, but all the sweeter for being accomplished with a nasty hand injury sustained in the field. JH, Sacha, JC, NJ and Jatinder all kept the run rate ticking along nicely, but the game was still in the balance until Vijay opened his shoulders and carried us over the line with a flurry of fours and a couple of huge sixes hit out of the ground. We rounded off a very pleasant evening at The Hope on Wandsworth Common, where Damian put his hard-earned Qatari riyals to honourable use.
