LSE 163 for 6 (Anand 3/23 & Shimoga (NJ) 2/24) beat Dodgers 146 for 6 (McBarron 51 & Dollin† 21) by 16 runs
MOM: Anand 6, McBarron 3 & Shimoga (NJ) 2
This is a match that Dodgers ought really to have won, but once again our mental strength in the long form of the game was found wanting. On a beautiful day at the lovely Berrylands ground, tight bowling from openers Imran and Vijay kept the LSE pinned back at the start, with NJ and John G keeping up the pressure well at first change. Even though we leaked a few more runs later in the innings, a total of 163 looked eminently achievable as we headed towards the egg sandwiches.
Things started well enough as Mike and Phil opened our innings, and we were never too far behind the run rate. However, the infamous Dodgers 'false sense of security' kicked in as we began to notch up dot balls by the dozen. The game slipped inexorably away from us, so that by the time the lower order were called upon to chance their arm, it was in a lost cause. A frustrating afternoon, all in all, and a lesson that we must approach longer matches not with a desire to hit every ball out of the ground, but with a little more intensity when there is still time to make it count.
