A cold and rainy Chiswick welcomed back Dodgers for our first game of the season on home turf, to take on the might of LT Dinos. Captain Mike (deputising for a golf-tied Ralph) won a useful toss and opted to bat first. Given that we had agreed to play a full 20 overs each, on an overcast evening in early May, this was to prove a good decision.
Mike and Mehboob started strongly, and after 10 overs we were a very impressive 82 without loss. Things slowed slightly after Mehboob retired with 26* and Mike was caught a-slogging for 14, but Tawhid (25*), Jatinder (22*) and Komal (24*) pushed us on to an eminently defendable total of 144 for 1 off our 20 overs.
The light was fading as the Dinos tried to keep up with the run rate, and we switched to a pink ball half way through their innings. This did not impede an excellent display of bowling from Adam, Noman, Charlie, Tom and new signing Rubab, who gradually tightened the screw until Dinos needed more than 10 an over. The match ended in near total darkness, but Dodgers had won by a good 23 runs so the result was not in doubt.
Man of the match votes: Mehboob 8, Komal 2, Rubab 1.
