Dodgers v Tilberg Regents, 16 June 2021

A combined Dodgers and South Bank team took to the field at Turney Road on a nice but sultry evening with thunderstorms forecast for later, against a Tilberg Regents side itself boosted by an admixture of Dulwich Dads.

Dodgers won the toss and Captain John, deputising in Ralph's absence, elected to field. We were greatly strengthened by a young bowling line-up from the South Bank contingent; Tommy and Lorcan opened for us neatly, the latter claiming an excellent 3 for 28. Regular Dodgers opener Bilal came on at first change with off spinner Affaf, both giving away nothing and completing their combined six overs for just 18. Theo and Dan came on as second change and bowled with similar economy, so that the Regents were unable to score freely at any stage. Exceptional fielding throughout the innings added to the pressure, so that the Tilberg total ended at 104 for 6.

Fran and Affaf, both on transfer from South Bank, opened our innings with great aplomb, punishing the bad balls and running hard between the wickets. Their opening stand of 56 set the tone for the rest of the match, with Tawhid scoring fluently once Fran had retired on his unbeaten 25. Jatinder was unlucky to be bowled by one that kept horribly low, but Simon took on where he left off on the weekend with another excellent knock. He and Dan saw us home comfortably as the skies darkened and the rain began to fall. A good victory against a tough opposition, all played in the best of spirits. The Dodgers season is back on track!

Man of the Match votes: Lorcan 6, Affaf 4, Theo 1
